The existing lobby, kitchenette and shower area have been
remodelled to provide a leisure area with spa bath, a sauna
installed by Sauna Finn, a steam shower and new toilet. The
original flagstones in the lobby were re-laid following the
laying of a new insulated concrete floor with damp-proof
membrane. The semi-basement walling was treated and rendered
with waterproof render by Peter Cox Property Services, which
has a 20 year guarantee.
The family room was refurbished, and to achieve more
light and improved outlook Listed Building consent
was obtained for the replacement of the casement front
window with a pair of vertical sliding sash windows
with the sill at a lower level.
In conjunction with the replacement of the boiler, the storage space under the
stair has been fitted out as a boiler room, and the original boiler room converted
into a utility room.
Planning and Listed Building consent for a conservatory was granted in 2004. The
275 sq ft conservatory was installed by Glass Houses Limited, access from the
house being via a new short stair down from the ground floor lobby outside the
kitchen, faced in natural stone pavings to match the flooring of the conservatory. A
link to the conservatory was formed into the gymnasium at the front, which replaced
the garage on the lower level of the original side extension. The external
stair to the garden was removed, and the doorway fitted with a full-height sliding
sash window with views to the garden from the entrance hall.
The conservatory is heated by underfloor heating. |
